A Worthy Cause

The Bear passes along a worthy cause from Frz Z's blog. Help the Benedictine monks of Silverstream Priory purchase their property in Ireland. Your tax deductible contribution can be sent to:

The Monastery of Our Lady of the Cenacle Foundation
20315 South Hwy 75

Mounds, OK 74047
Today is an excellent day to make a small donation i.e. (Lenten almsgiving) because it is the Feast of St. Benedict under local Benedictine observance (and the old calendar).
It is also the second anniversary of the Bear and his mate becoming Benedictine oblates!
New Benedictine oblates in the Chapter Room
 at St. Meinrad Archabbey.

The Emerald Isle has been virtually de-Christianized. When the light of faith flickered out in the West, it was the Irish who preserved it and re-evangelized the world. We owe Ireland. Big time. The Bear joins Fr. Z in asking you to consider sending at least the cost of a meal to his Benedictine big brothers on this Lenten Friday.

St. Benedict has been invoked for a happy death from earliest times. Here is a prayer you may add to your personal armorarium.

V. Intercede for us, O holy Father Benedict.

R. And obtain for us the grace of a happy death.

O holy Father Benedict, whose very name signifies your blessedness, you most joyfully offered your angelic soul to God while you stood in prayer with your arms raised to heaven.

You have promised to defend us from the devil's attacks at the hour of death if we daily recall to you your own glorious death and heavenly joys.

Protect me, therefore, O glorious Father, today and every day by your holy blessing, so that I may never be separated from our blessed Jesus, nor from the company of you and all the saints. Amen.

O God, who adorned the precious death of our most holy Father, Saint Benedict, with so many and so great privileges, grant, we beseech You, that at our departure hence, we may be defended from the snares of the enemy by the blessed presence of him whose memory we celebrate. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  1. The monastery devotes itself in a special way to the teachings of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus. A check is in the mail. :)

  2. Brother Tim: I am deeply grateful for the scholarly works on the Faith you have provided and which have served as Catholic "continuing education" for me. As a small token of my thanks, I will happily send a donation to the Monastery when I get to the office in a few hours. You and Kathy are an inspiration for your service as oblates. I pray this has been a beneficial Lent for you and yours.

  3. Thank you for the kind words, Terry. And thanks for helping out the brothers. Can you imagine their surprise at getting donations from all over? The presence of monasteries as "spiritual fortresses" in the occupied territory known as the world is important. They have a ripple effect, and oblates are a good example (not that I will claim being any example other than bad; I just sit in the scriborium copying what popes and saints have taught for my small circle of friends).
