Latin America Is Different

The Bear had almost forgotten. How can we be anything other than slothful hypocrites when our bishops don't even dance?

  1. I think this video can be filed under "Inmates Running the Asylum". In a brand new super-sized, ultra-expandable accordion file.

  2. Isn't it more like the people who are running the asylum are acting like inmates?

  3. There is one way in which I think Latin America is different in a good way for our times, and that is that I don’t think Latin Americans buy into the Culture of Death. Not that I think they are paying enough attention to it; they’re not -- but that’s different than saying they buy into it, and when Pope Francis said “I am wary of a solution that can be reduced to a kind of ‘female machismo',” I experienced a frisson of hope that a healthy Latino embrace of La Difference was alive and well in him, and that the LCWR types were suddenly staring into headlights they thought they’d extinguished long before.

I just can’t see Latin American guys by the millions rolling over and playing dead when told, in effect, that manhood and womanhood are now essentially meaningless. I’d like to think that Pope Francis -- if his attention could be redirected, for a second or two, toward WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT UNDER HIS NOSE – if he were to finally get the message that while he’s been otherwise occupied, the World has been conniving to hang the flayed hides of Adam and Eve from HIS window at the Domus Sanctae Marthae – well, I’d like to think that the Latino in him would come through for us all.
